"Spetstransgarant" is high quality transport

The company profile of "Spetstransgarant" ("STG") is that it is a member of the Group Rail Garant involved in the transportation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as chemical and petrochemical products in specialized tank containers (TCs). The company is constantly evolving. In recent years it has been expanded and upgraded its operating fleet. In particular it has added the gas unit TC 151 for the transport of LPG.

According to the Managing Director of "Spetstransgarant", Maria Surina, the decision to purchase new equipment was due to a general increase in the production of propane-butane and butadiene in Russia, which in turn has led to increased transport of these products.

The new equipment was purchased for the fulfillment of both existing and new projects. In this regard, the company expects an increase in the fleet of gas tank containers that will not only further enhance the volume of transportation of LPG but also expand its customer base.

FEATURES OF TRANSPORT IN TANK-CONTAINERS

The transportation of liquid cargo in tank containers in Russia today is not in high demand, and we are only at the initial stage of development. Most companies and shippers prefer the tradition of working with tank wagons as this is the more usual way for them to transport.

STG is one of the first Russian companies which began the transportation of liquefied petroleum gases in tank containers. Work in this area started in 2004. Since that time the company has managed to not only accumulate rich experience in organizing the transportation of LPG in special containers, but also to become the largest in Russia and the CIS as an operator of specialized gas containers.

The main reason why the company decided to use tank-containers was their multimodality. First, they allow you to load the containers from one mode to another without handling the product and, thus, maintain the same quality of product throughout the transportation process. Second, in complex transportation the accessibility in some areas gained by the possibility of combining different modes of transport at their destination is a weighty advantage over tank wagons.

Of course, not all companies today are willing to work with tank-containers as this involves upgrading the existing loading racks. However, the obvious advantages of specialized transportation in containers, as well as a general trend of containerization estimated for "CTG" will contribute to the development of the transport of liquid cargo in tank containers as well as for liquefied petroleum gas and chemicals.

PLANS FOR BUSINESS

In line with the strategy of the transportation of liquefied gases, by the end of the first quarter of this year, its own fleet of gas-tank-containers will increase by 50 units. As a result, the total TC fleet of the gas company will exceed 1,300 units.

The new fleet of tank containers will be used to meet the growing traffic volume of liquefied petroleum gas. If in December last year the volume of transportation of LPG by was 25 tons, according to the results in January of this year, it exceeded 27 thousand tons. From the second half of this year the company plans to further increase traffic volumes of LPG and butadiene.

Another important avenue for the company is in chemical and petrochemical transportation in tank containers. More than 1300 chemical tank containers are to be managed in the fleet. As part of this sphere the company is also expanding the fleet, expanding the range of goods carried, increasing the volume of traffic, as well as implementing a project to build Russia's first specialized container depot for cleaning, decontamination, periodic inspection and repair of tank containers.
